Description

Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch Bourbon

Edmund Haynes Taylor Jr is widely regarded as a prominent figure in the history of bourbon, recognized for his pioneering contributions to the industry. The individual in question was born in the year 1830 and experienced the loss of his parents at the tender age of five. Subsequently, he was taken into the care of his uncle, Edmund Haynes Taylor Snr, who bestowed upon him the name of his own, thereby designating him as his junior. E.H. Taylor Jr is commonly known as Colonel Taylor, a title bestowed upon him as an honorary Kentucky Colonel. This designation is also shared by several notable individuals from the state, including a well-known fried chicken purveyor. Throughout his professional trajectory, Taylor established and possessed a total of seven distinct distilleries. His active advocacy for the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 has earned him recognition as a seminal figure in the development of contemporary bourbon. A decade prior, the individual in question divested his ownership in the OFC distillery, which is presently known as Buffalo Trace, to George T. Stagg. Subsequently, he established the Old Taylor distillery in close proximity to Frankfort, Kentucky. The distillery showcased a simulated castle structure and subterranean gardens within its premises, and played a crucial role in the emergence of bourbon tourism. At this juncture, the individual in question successfully founded the Old Taylor brand. Subsequently, due to the implementation of Prohibition, the brand was transferred to National Distillers, one of the prominent distilling companies that held significant control over the market following the repeal of Prohibition. The closure of the distillery occurred in 1972, after which manufacturing operations were relocated to the adjacent Old Grand-dad site. Following the acquisition of National Distillers by Jim Beam in 1987, the facility underwent conversion into a facility primarily dedicated to warehousing and bottling activities. The brand of Beam was promoted in conjunction with other brands under the National Distiller portfolio, namely Old Crow and Old Grand-dad, until its acquisition by the Sazerac Company in 2009. This acquisition resulted in the restoration of Taylor’s name to its original place of origin at Buffalo Trace.

The iteration of the brand referred to as Colonel E.H. Taylor is recognized as the Buffalo Trace rendition. With the exception of the Barrel Strength releases, all the products are Bottled in Bond at the 100 US proof as mandated by the legislation that Taylor valiantly advocated for. The present offering constitutes a limited production of bourbon, characterized by its small batch nature, and then packaged and sealed in the year 2020.
