In commemoration of the tenth anniversary of our esteemed Private Edition series, Glenmorangie Allta is the inaugural Glenmorangie expression crafted only from the indigenous yeast strains found on our Cadboll barley. The genesis of this opulent and aromatic single malt can be traced back to the contemplative excursions undertaken by Dr. Bill Lumsden in the vicinity of the Distillery, during which he diligently collected invaluable specimens of grain. Upon the revelation that the barley harbored an unknown strain of wild yeast, the individual embarked on a mission to unite these elements in the production of a velvety and fragrant whisky. Glenmorangie Allta, named after the Scots Gaelic term for ‘wild’ and pronounced as ‘al-ta’, is a Scotch whiskey that has undergone maturation in bourbon barrels, with a significant portion being second-fill casks. This maturation process aims to highlight the fruity characteristics of the spirit. By doing so, Glenmorangie Allta emphasizes the crucial role of yeast in contributing to the diverse range of flavors observed in Scotch whisky. Furthermore, this expression of Glenmorangie paves the way for intriguing prospects in the realm of whisky production.
