Description
This 18-year-old Hakushu is a huge step up in quality from the ordinary 12-year-old Hakushu. It’s incredibly well-defined (as we’ve come to expect from Japanese whisky), with delightfully balanced fruit and cereal flavors that are shockingly evocative of the best Irish potstill whisky at times (eg Redbreast 15yo).
Melon, kiwi. Honey, geranium. More and more citrus. Anise. Hay. 1min later, light prunes. Still a light nosing, no peat. People probably mistreat hay as peat. Lemon after a sip. Overall medium to light strength.
Color: Deep gold
Nose: Ripe pear, dried mint, oregano, hint of smoke
Palate: Jasmine, mango, quince, menthol
Finish: Long, pleasantly smoked, hint of bitterness
